Eating Disorder Treatment

Conditions We Treat

Private Eating Disorder Treatment

At Aston Private, we support people with eating disorders whose health is stable enough for treatment outside hospital. Your care may include medical appointments, mental health support, nutrition advice, as well as practical support, depending on your needs.

Following an assessment, we may recommend residential care in a private Byron Bay residence or outpatient treatment through Aston at Home, available in Byron Bay and selected areas of the Northern Rivers, NSW.

Before you begin, we review your physical and mental health, medical history and any relevant test results. Further tests or assessments may be needed to understand which setting and level of support are appropriate for you. If you need hospital treatment or medical stabilisation, that takes priority before we can consider an Aston Private program. [2][3]

Understanding Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are serious and can affect both your physical and mental health. They can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, or body size. A person’s appearance does not show how serious the illness is or what support they need. [1][3]

These can include eating less, binge eating, behaviours to make up for it, avoiding certain foods, or ongoing worry about eating, weight, or body shape. These problems can affect your focus, relationships, social life, and physical health. [1]

Many people can receive eating disorder treatment while living at home, as long as their medical and mental health needs can be safely managed. Some people may need hospital care at times. The right approach depends on a full assessment and frequent check-ins.[2][3]

You don’t have to wait until things get worse before asking for help. Getting checked and starting treatment early can protect your health and help your recovery. [4]

Personalised Eating Disorder Treatment

Your care considers your medical and nutritional needs, as well as the thoughts, feelings, and situations that affect your relationship with food. We also look at concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, or ongoing pressure to meet high expectations.

Eating disorder treatment usually includes psychological care, medical check-ups, and nutritional support. How often you meet and the type of care you receive depends on your diagnosis, health, and progress. [2][3]

Based on your needs, your program might include:

  • One-on-one psychological therapy focused on eating disorder recovery
  • Medical reviews and physical health monitoring
  • Nutritional advice from an appropriately qualified dietitian
  • Practical support with meals and everyday routines
  • Treatment for accompanying mental health concerns
  • Family or partner involvement, with your consent
Your team will monitor your progress and revise your care as needed. If your health gets worse or you need more support than your program can provide, you may need a higher level of care.

Private Residential Care in Byron Bay

Our residential programs provide one-on-one treatment, practical support and time to rest in a private Byron Bay home.

Before admission, we assess whether we can safely meet your medical, nutritional and psychological needs. If you need hospital care or medical stabilisation, this must come first. [3]

Outpatient Eating Disorder Treatment Through Aston at Home

Aston at Home provides coordinated outpatient treatment for suitable clients whose eating disorder can be safely managed while they continue living at home.

Available in Byron Bay and selected areas of the Northern Rivers, NSW, your program brings professional care and practical support into your daily life. This lets you work on challenges as they arise, including meals, shopping, family routines, and social situations.

Depending on your needs, care may include psychological therapy, medical reviews, dietetic guidance and agreed practical support. We coordinate your appointments within a personalised treatment plan and regularly review your health and progress.

Aston at Home may also support the transition after hospital or residential treatment, where clinically appropriate.

Outpatient treatment requires sufficient medical stability and appropriate support between appointments. It does not provide continuous supervision or hospital-level care. We assess suitability before treatment begins and review it throughout your program. [2][3]

Support for Everyday Recovery

Your goals may include feeling less distressed around meals, developing more flexible eating patterns, reducing harmful behaviours, improving concentration or participating more comfortably in relationships and social activities.

With your consent, people important to you can be involved in your care and supported to understand how they can help. Planning for ongoing treatment promotes maintaining continuity between professionals and prepares you for the next stage of recovery. [3]

Discuss Your Treatment Options Confidentially

Our experienced team is positioned to listen, answer your questions and discuss your circumstances.

We can help you explore whether private residential care or Aston at Home may be suitable, and explain the assessment process before treatment begins.
