Personal Recovery Mentor

The AP Concept

Personal Recovery Mentor

Personal support to help you apply recovery strategies, build confidence, and establish routines that suit your daily life.

Treatment provides space to understand your challenges. A personal recovery mentor helps you apply what you learn between appointments, offering practical advice and encouragement tailored to your needs.

At Aston Private, we include recovery mentoring in your personalised care when appropriate. Whether you are in residential treatment in Byron Bay or receiving support through Aston at Home, mentoring is tailored to your needs, priorities, and recovery goals.

Someone to Talk With, Support to Move Forward

Recovery can feel isolating, and speaking openly about your experiences may take time. Your personal recovery mentor offers a consistent, supportive connection where you can talk honestly, feel heard and work through challenges without judgement.

Together, you can build a support network that feels right for you. This may include reconnecting with trusted family or friends, exploring recovery groups and recognising the personal strengths you can draw on.

Where your mentor has personal recovery experience, they may share relevant insights. The focus remains on your circumstances and the supports that help your progress.

Practical Guidance For Your Life

Your mentor helps you recognise situations that may lead to substance use or unhelpful behaviours and practise strategies to manage them.

Depending on your needs, mentoring may include:

  1. Building routines around sleep, meals, movement and responsibilities.
  2. Managing triggers using strategies agreed with your treating team.
  3. Preparing for work, travel or social occasions where alcohol or drugs may be present.
  4. Reconnecting with meaningful interests and activities.
  5. Finding suitable recovery groups and ongoing support.
  6. Reviewing goals and working through setbacks without judgement.

Support is collaborative and respectful, with clear expectations and regular reviews.

Support Through Each Stage of Recovery

During residential treatment, mentoring helps you establish routines and prepare for returning home. Through Aston at Home, it supports clients practising recovery skills in their own environment in Byron Bay and selected areas of the Northern Rivers.

Where appropriate, we can include continued mentoring in your ongoing aftercare plan, with its frequency and focus reviewed as your needs evolve.
